Eunice, Lois, Hannah, Rachel, Salome and on and on. Literally, from Abigail to Zipporah, or “A” to “Z”, the Bible features mothers of all shapes and sizes. In fact, the Bible actually mentions more than 84 separate mothers in the Old Testament alone. This video below published by the Museum of the Bible showcases many of the mothers featured in the Bible. As a celebration of Mother’s Day, enjoy this interesting look at these amazing moms.
Eve was the first mother mentioned in the Bible. She is labeled “the mother of all living things.” Although she is likely most remembered for her poor decision to follow the deception of the devil, she was, in fact, the first mother ever. This fact alone makes her worthy of admiration.
Another important mother mentioned in the Bible was, of course, Mary who held the distinction of carrying the Son of God in her womb, through a miraculous conception. She was highly favored to be chosen for this role. In Luke 1:42, the Bible says, “And she exclaimed with a loud cry, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!'”
These women are just two of the many mothers mentioned in the Bible. God places great importance on the role of these special women. No family will function as God intended without the strong leadership of a godly woman. The importance of her role cannot be overstated. If you are blessed with a woman like this to call your own mother, aunt, grandmother, sister or friend, consider yourself blessed and be sure to wish them a Happy Mother’s Day and do something extra special for them to ensure they have the best Mother’s Day ever.
