The Bible promotes the idea of shrewdness among Christians. In Matthew 10:6, Jesus says, “I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” In Hebrews 5:14, God’s word again speaks to the importance of discernment. “Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.”

How Christians Can be Discerning

This video you can view below, explains some common teachings many Christians get wrong. Avoid them at all costs in order to discern right from wrong and be harmless as doves, yet wise as serpents.

FALSE TEACHING #1: Every Christian Must Speak in Tongues

This teaching implies every person who is a believer must be able to speak in tongues or their faith isn’t’ genuine. However, the Bible clearly says that a person’s salvation doesn’t come in this manner. Instead, they only have to repent of their sins and believe that Jesus died for their sins and rose again.

FALSE TEACHING #2: Christians Can Lose Their Salvation

Paul explains in Ephesians 2:8-9 that it is grace that saves us. It also explains that salvation is a gift of God, not of works. Therefore, since works can’t earn salvation, lack of works can’t undo our salvation. In other words, we didn’t earn salvation to begin with, so we can’t lose it.

FALSE TEACHING #3: Christians Should All Be Wealthy & Healthy

The health and wealth gospel as its sometimes called suggests that Christians will be “rewarded” with good health and plenty of earthly riches. The proof that this isn’t true is the fact that many Christians die while praying for healing. Others spend their entire lives struggling financially. Neither situation has anything to do with a person’s faith in God.

The video goes on to include four more false teachings Christians should avoid at all costs. Watch it in its entirety to learn more.
