You’ll love the clip which can be seen below. The exciting performance is set on stage, in a scene reminiscent of an old country church sanctuary. Denver opens the performance solo, and is then joined by the powerhouse quartet, each of whom was then given a verse or part to sing individually highlighting the magnitude of the talented quintet. The harmonies were dynamic and even though it showcased this country favorite style, vocal styling was shown throughout the performance. Think early Gaither Vocal band leading a round at the Gaither Homecoming–minus the piano.

The song was originally penned way back in 1929 by Albert E. Brumley and has risen to be recognized as one of the most recorded gospel hits in music.

There is no doubt that John Denver was fun to watch and his hit songs were always fresh and exciting. Denver, born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. , was an American singer-songwriter, record producer, actor, activist, and humanitarian.

Although Denver died in an airplane crash in 1997, he is still remembered as a stellar singer songwriter, best known as a solo folk music singer, he was also one of the most popular acoustic acts of the 70’s. Some of his most popular recordings include:

Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” “Rocky Mountain High,” and “Sunshine on My Shoulders.”
