Have you ever wondered what happened to Jesus? You know. The time between His death and resurrection. Did He go to hell? To heaven? This video published by “Real Truth. Real Quick.” explores just this issue. You can view this video in its entirety below.
The thought that Jesus descended into hell is based on the Apostle’s Creed, where it says that Jesus descended into hell. This information was derived from Ephesians 4:8-9, which says, “This is why it says: ‘When He ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.’ (What does ‘he ascended’ mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions?”
Those who wrote the Apostle’s Creed took this verse mean that Jesus descended into hell during the time between His death and resurrection. According to the experts in this video; however, this is a poor translation. We learn in this video that Jesus descended from heaven to earth for his earthly ministry. Not into hell. Therefore, this passage isn’t talking about the time between Jesus’ death and resurrection but about a different time altogether.
The Bible does tell us the answer to this question. Jesus himself actually tells us in Luke 23:43 when replying to the thief dying on the cross beside him. “And He said to him, ‘Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” The word “today” tells us exactly where Jesus went the day of His death, Paradise or heaven.
