4 Ways To Know If It Is God’s Voice
“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and always sincere.” (James 3:17)
The voices we hear are to be tested. The Bible says to test the spirits (1 Jn. 4:1) and God gives us guidelines on how to know which ones come from Him. Gods character is loving, gentle, kind, peaceful, and encouraging.
He is never condemning, never abusing, and He never seeks to hurt our hearts. He does correct His children, but always in a loving way. (Heb. 12:6)
Here are a few other guidelines to test the voices by:
- It will line up with God’s Word because He is never contrary to what He says. He doesn’t change like shifting shadows (James 1:17).
- God will be glorified in whatever He is telling you to do. If you’re hearing voices that doesn’t bring glory to God, check again where they may be coming from.
- He speaks always in His Word, even when we can’t sense Him. Why? Because His Word never changes, nor does His character. The Word is a living and effective and sharper than any double- edged sword. (Heb. 4:12 HCSB)
- Seek Godly counsel and the wisdom of God in others. There is safety in a multitude of counsellors (Prov. 11:14). “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” (2 Cor. 13:1).
