Bizarre Things That Happened on the Set of “The Passion of The Christ” Movie | I Love Being Christian Videos

After the Passion of the Christ was released, it garnered three Academy Award nominations and remains the highest grossing R-rated film of all time. In other words, it was and is considered an immense success. However, the set of the movie wasn’t without some bizarre, even negative occurrences according to this video published below by Looper.

Bizarre Things That Occurred on Set of The Passion of The Christ

  • Three Lightning Strikes: Although lightning strikes are rare, there were three separate occurrences of lightning strikes on the set of the Passion of The Christ. The actor who played Jesus, Jim Caviezel, said he was “lit up like a Christmas tree” when filming the Sermon on the Mount scene in the movie.
  • Whiplash: The actor who portrayed Jesus in the film, Jim Caviezel, once again experienced some unfortunate happening when he was given whiplash as a result of an errant whip. This occurred during the scourging scene. The actors weren’t supposed to actually whip Caviezel but he was accidentally struck so hard it caused whiplash.
  • Dislocated Limbs: Ironically, Caviezel also dislocated his shoulder while filming the scene where he carried the cross. It seems Caviezel fulfilled Jesus’ admonition literally when he said in Matthew 16:4 “Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'” Of course, what Caviezel did while literally carrying a cross wasn’t exactly what Christ meant.
  • Sickness: During the shooting of the crucifixion scene, Caviezel also got a lung infection and pneumonia due to the frigid weather and temperature extremes he was forced to endure while “hanging on the cross.”
