It is a rare treat when you can get more than one or two country music icons together to sing. Such an event happens once in a lifetime if we are lucky. One such instance took place in 2013 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The video below showcases what happened when 30 country artists, stars in their own right, joined together with Randy Travis as a way to pay tribute to the beloved artist by putting on one phenomenal concert.
Travis Tritt, the group Alabama, Chris Janson, Alison Krauss, Scotty McCreery, Josh Turner, Chris Young, Kane Brown, Garth Brooks and more joined together with Travis for an emotional medley of “Will The Circle be Unbroken” after his own version of “Amazing Grace.”
Before the immensely talented artists took the stage Randy Travis’ wife, Mary Travis, accompanied her husband on stage. It’s hard to imagine how monumental the moment was for Mary who only three years prior was told her husband, the great Randy Travis, should not be kept alive.
Randy Travis almost died after suffering a massive stroke three years prior to this concert. It was so serious that Mary, Travis’ wife, was advised to pull the plug on her husband. Doctors warned her that even if he woke again, he would be confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of this life. The fact that Randy walked, unaided on the stage of his own tribute concert and sang along with several other artists is nothing short of miraculous.
While there were several notable performances during Randy Travis’ tribute concert, Travis himself likely stole the show with his beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace.” The hugely talented Randy Travis isn’t through making music yet or anytime soon we hope.
