Lukewarm. Not hot. Not cold. In between. Spiritually, it is the most detestable way to describe a believer or group of believers. Jesus himself used the term to describe a church in Revelation 3:15-16
“….you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are LUKEWARM water…I will SPIT you out of My mouth.”
Lukewarm Water Isn’t Useful
Jesus wasn’t calling this group unsaved. He was instead, in essence, saying they were useless according to this video below published by “THE BEAT.” Cold water has a purpose, so does hot, but lukewarm, being neither hot nor cold, is useless.
How to Know if Your Lukewarm?
- You Don’t Believe Jesus is the Only Way: A recent poll found an amazing 57% of professing Christians to believe there are multiple ways to heaven. This is a “worldly” belief and indicates a lukewarm belief in a Christian.
- You Believe Same-Sex Marriage and/or Living Together Prior to Marriage is Okay: It’s not okay to redefine what the Bible labels as sin simply because its accepted by the world. This is a lukewarm belief.
- You Have no Conviction: When you sin, your heart should grieve over that sin and cause conviction. When your heart has become hardened, you will no longer feel conviction. This is a sign of a lukewarm life.
- You Have no Spiritual Growth: 1 Corinthians 3:1 “I couldn’t talk to you as I would to SPIRITUAL people. I had to talk to you as though you belonged to the WORLD.” This verse explains that a proper Christian life should include spiritual growth. when it doesn’t that means the world is getting in and growth is stagnating. Of course, there are seasons where growth is reduced but a sustained lack of growth points to a lukewarm life.
