Why Can Being A Christian Be Uncomfortable? (Here’s Why)

In life, virtually anything that is good for you is difficult to grasp. Achievements worth having, aren’t easy to come by. Disciples that transform your life aren’t second nature. In the same way, a life devoted to Christ isn’t going to be one of ease. In fact, according to this short video below published by Village Church, Christianity can be downright uncomfortable.
It’s Actually Closer to Destruction Than Comfort
The speaker in this video talks about the demon-possessed man whom Jesus freed. During the process, the demons asked Jesus for mercy. In Mark 5:7-8, the Bible says, “He shouted at the top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name, don’t torture me!’ For Jesus said to him, ‘Come out of this man, you impure spirit!“
The demons within the man were uncomfortable, they were begging to not be destroyed. The experience for the demon-possessed man mentioned in the scripture was very likely uncomfortable. Even though restoration and freedom is what he needed most, the process of getting that freedom wasn’t easy or comfortable. In the same way, living a life fully committed to Christ, fully surrendered to Christ, fully engaged with Christ will often be uncomfortable.
It’s Like Surgery
Another illustration to explain what it’s like when God begins to mold you into what He would have you be is surgery. It’s like a surgeon going in and removing a diseased organ. This organ if left will corrupt your whole being. By removing it, you will be able to heal and live a healthier life. However, the surgery itself is taxing. You might even have scars, but oh how amazing to be mended and perfected by the Great Physician!
