As parents, we have big dreams for our children. We want them to find happiness and achieve success and become a well-liked, responsible, contributing individuals. Thankfully, God also wants our children to succeed. In Jeremiah 29:11, we learn that God wants all His children to succeed (this includes us as well.) The verse reads, “’For I know the plans I have for you’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’” As parents, we can pray this promise, along with many others over our children daily in and effort to help them become the individuals God wants them to become. This guided prayer published by Daily Effective Prayer will show you how to pray such a prayer.
What About When Children Drift Away?
In the Bible in the book of Proverbs 22:6 reads, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Unfortunately, this is a proverb, not a promise, and sometimes children wander away from the way they have been taught. They choose to go their own path. Just consider the story of the prodigal son. The important point for parents to remember is that God will often bring their children back into the fold. Even if the time of wandering lasts for a spell.
Praying Even Over Small Children
When your kids are small, praying over them is a great way to try to guide them into the fulfilling their God given purpose. Remember, though, your children still have a will of their own, meaning they can choose to stray when they get older and this isn’t a negative reflection on you.
