What makes a man? In today’s culture, this is confusing. This is partly because boys simply aren’t raised to be men as they once were. This video explores this timely issue.
What’s in the Video
Jesse is speaking with a 25-year-old young man who is still living at home with his mother. Jesse is launching an intervention of sorts. He explains that he moved out at 18 years-of-age and bought a house when he was 25. Jesse believes it’s all about the mindset for today’s young men. They must get to the point where they desire independence.
What Parents Should Do
At the beginning of the video, you hear Jesse say he was told by his grandparents that he would be moving out of their house when he turned 18 years-of-age. In other words, they set an expectation. Today, that seems absolutely foreign. After all, many college graduates move back home after graduating from college. It shouldn’t be that way, though. By not giving kids, and young men especially, the expectations of being out on their own at a acceptable age, parents are hindering them from living the life God intended.
What The Bible Says About Being a Man
In the Bible 1 Corinthians 13:11 says, “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.” The Bible explains that part of becoming a godly man is giving up childish ways. Childish ways can include living under a parent’s roof, not working and providing a future for a potential family or just not taking responsibility for their own life. God sets the man apart. Therefore, He expects the man to be the leader of his family. In order to begin, he has to leave his mom and move forward with his life. Because momma is always look at her son as her baby and will treat him as such.
