Carrie Underwood is an example of whirlwind success. Coming on the heels of her winning American Idol season four, Underwood released her debut album entitled Some Hearts. On that album was a special single that ended up becoming a huge crossover hit, and held fast at the number one spot of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for six consecutive weeks. This song you might have guessed was called “Jesus Take the Wheel”

Underwood Achieved Immense Success

Not only did the single “Jesus Take the Wheel” have immense success, Underwood also won the Grammy for the Best Female Vocal Performance & Best Country Song and “Jesus Take the Wheel” won Single of the Year at the 2005 ACM Awards. Three years after her appearance on American Idol, Underwood was introduced into the Grand Ole Opry family. For country artists, this is akin to being inducted into a hall of fame of sorts.

The Opry Induction Ceremony Took an Interesting Twist

Underwood appeared at the Grand Ole Opry to accept her induction. She was introduced by the great Garth Brooks, and invited by Randy Travis. That wasn’t all, though. As she clung to her newly received award given to her by the Opry, she began to sing again the song that got her to her current position. As she started singing “Jesus Take the Wheel,” the amazingly talented Vince Gill also took the stage and began accompanying Underwood, seemingly unexpectedly, as she performed the moving song. You can enjoy the performance yourself by watching the video. Note the awe in Underwood’s face as Gill starts singing along with her. It showcases the emotions that must have gone through Underwood’s being as she realized she was being accepted and honored by country music’s best.
